THE END OF OAK STREET

1982 – In the neighborhood of Flowervale, folks are gathered for a block party on Oak Street. Among them is the Platt family – parents Denise and Greg (Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor) and kids Audrey and Brian (Maisy Stella and Christian Convery), plus their dog Starbuck. The kids have noted how their parents have been fighting a lot lately.

Greg works as a pizza delivery driver, which he thinks Denise is ashamed of. Denise wants to finish her manuscript and become a published novelist, which she shares with her neighbor, Mrs. Huddleston (Anne Gee Byrd). Afterwards, Denise helps Mrs. Huddleston remove a mysterious plant that has spawned in her yard.

Brian and his friends are walking around the neighborhood, trying to avoid a classmate’s older brother since Brian accidentally broke the kid’s arm. The boys then see a new girl, Jeanette Christiansen (Jordan Alexa Davis), who recently went to a private school. Meanwhile, Denise deals with obnoxious neighbor Mel (PJ Byrne), who complains that Starbuck has been going into his yard to poop.

Later that night, a bright light flashes outside. Starbuck barks at it, prompting Brian to go outside to investigate. They find nothing outside. In the morning, Mel complains to the Platts about what he believes is a prank. Greg goes outside to see an enormous pile of feces in Mel’s backyard, which he thinks the kids did. Although he denies that his kids would do that, Greg agrees to help Mel clean up. Denise later goes to the library to try and find out what plant grew in Mrs. Huddleston’s yard.

A storm occurs overnight. Another bright light flashes through the neighborhood, but this time it knocks out the power, and the basement gets flooded. The Platts try to light things up, but they hear screaming outside. Greg goes to check it out but doesn’t see anything.

In the morning, the family finds that Starbuck has gotten out. Greg and Denise patrol the streets to find the dog. Audrey is outside on the roof of the house, when she sees a cat and then hears it getting attacked by something that is lurking in the streets. She runs to Brian’s room, and they both see a large tail going into the bushes. Meanwhile, Denise goes into Mrs. Huddleston’s house to find her dead with her throat having been ripped out by some animal that left bloody footprints behind. Denise grabs Mrs. Huddleston’s rifle and goes into the backyard to see that more prehistoric plant life has grown in the backyard.

Greg ends up spotting a theropod creeping through the backyards. He tries to hide but gets chased by the beast before it gets shot by Denise. Greg and Denise run back to the house, but more theropods emerge and start attacking and killing the neighbors. Audrey and Brian open the door for their parents before rushing to the car to escape. Unfortunately, the entire neighborhood appears to have been completely teleported to a prehistoric landscape with no room to go anywhere else, and many other dinosaurs are roaming and attacking the neighbors. The Platts have no choice but to return home and board up the windows and doors.

The family gathers as they try to get a radio signal. Audrey believes that this event occurred due to a wormhole, since she has a fascination in topics such as these, as well as the works of Carl Sagan. Greg tries to reassure his family that they will be okay.

That evening, the family witnesses as Mel stands on his roof to shoot at pterosaurs, but they swarm him and tear him apart. Later, Greg and Denise argue about a few issues, such as Greg’s belief that Denise wants to leave the family after he read her manuscript. Meanwhile, Brian sees Starbuck outside and tries to rescue him. Audrey sees her brother and goes after him. Greg and Denise realize their kids have left and go after them.

In the streets, Brian avoids a giant worm creature before his classmate’s brother shows up to attack him and nearly kill him for hurting his brother. The boy begs his older brother to stop before the kid realizes he’s gone too far and backs off of Brian, admitting he is scared because of what his happening. The boys flee before Brian is found by Audrey. The siblings find Jeanette and save her from a theropod after Audrey stabs it. Jeanette joins them since she lost her parents to the dinosaurs.

Greg and Denise have to drive around a group of non-threatening dinosaurs before getting attacked by a gigantic spinosaur. Their car gets pushed into a house by the beast, creating a fire that Greg and Denise escape from. They narrowly avoid getting crushed by a stampeding herd of dinosaurs before finding a house with a wormhole that appears to lead back to their present time. However, they choose to find their kids before jumping through, and the wormhole closes.

The following day, Greg and Denise find the kids after they took shelter in another house. They see that the fire caused from the night before has begun to spread across the land. They proceed on foot, where they are found by an Allosaurus. The beast chases after everyone, with Denise drawing it away from the kids by shooting at it. The Allosaurus corners her on a porch and tries to eat her, but Greg knocks it down with a sledgehammer. Unfortunately, he is distracted and gets gruesomely devoured by the Allosaurus. Denise and the kids can only look on in shock before fleeing.

The devastated family keeps moving forward. Eventually, they find a glowing light from a house up on a hill, and they realize there is another wormhole there. They grab weapons and head on up. They have to get through a house belonging to the librarian, Mrs. Valcourt (Emily Kuroda). They are found by raisuchians, who corner Denise and the kids on the stairwell. Mrs. Valcourt emerges and shoots one of them, but the others attack and kill her. The giant worm from before makes a move on the kids, but Denise stabs it enough times that it slithers back out.

The four reach the roof of the house and try to time their jumps to make it through. Jeanette successfully jumps through first, but Brian misses his shot and falls to the ground. Pterosaurs swoop down to attack him, but Brian is saved by none other than STARBUCK when the dog returns and bites the pterosaur’s leg. Denise and Audrey get Brian and Starbuck back to the roof where they manage to jump before more dinosaurs can get them.

The family lands in a pool back in 1982 on the night that the wormhole teleports Oak Street, twenty minutes before it happens. After reuniting with Jeanette, they see that they are far above the hill overlooking Oak Street. Knowing they cannot make it down there in time to warn anyone, Denise uses a payphone to call the neighbors, and then calls for Greg to make a pizza delivery up to their location. Denise, Brian, and Audrey all embrace Greg, right before they all see the bright flash of light and witness the dinosaurs taking over what used to be Oak Street.

Two years pass. The military contains the area with the dinosaurs, capturing and killing most of the beasts while continuing to study how it all came to be. It is shown that Denise has published her book, “The End of Oak Street”, which details the family’s experience with the whole ordeal, and many of their neighbors (Mrs. Huddleston, Mrs. Valcourt and her husband, and Mel) have managed to live thanks to her. The Platts then gather for a barbecue, now joined by Jeanette and her parents.
